Domain Name Registrations and Transfers

• Do domains include privacy protection?
  Privacy protection is included free of charge for .ca domains. Make sure to choose "Canadian Citizen" as the registrant type when registering your domain. Please note that as per CIRA policy, if you choose the "Corporation" registrant type, privacy protection cannot be enabled.
  
  Privacy protection is available for .com and other domains for a small additional charge.
  
  
• What is involved in transferring a domain from another registrar?
  Once you complete the order for a domain transfer on our site, CIRA will send an email to the current administrative contact of the domain to approve the transfer. The email will contain instructions for approving the transfer. It's quite straightforward, you simply click the link in the email to log in to your CIRA account, and click on the link to approve the transfer. The entire process is usually complete within an hour.
  
  
• Is there any downtime when transferring a domain to CanSpace?
  No, there is absolutely no downtime when you transfer a domain to CanSpace. Your nameserver settings are all retained, and there will be absolutely no interruption of service whatsoever.
  
  
• What happens if I renew or transfer my domain before it expires? Do I lose the time I've already paid for?
  No! There is nothing lost by transferring or renewing early - in fact, it's highly recommended you do so long before the renewal date in case you forget and your domain ends up expiring. When you renew or transfer your domain, the period of time you choose is added on to the end of the current expiry date. Say for example your domain currently expires on July 5th, 2013. If you transfer your domain on January 10th, 2010 and choose a period of 2 years, once the transfer is completed the new expiry date would be July 5th, 2015.
  
  
• Can I transfer my domain to another person?
  Certainly! Simply open a support ticket with this request and it will be completed promptly.
  
  
• Can I use Google Apps with my domain?
  Definitely! Since Google Apps does not provide any DNS hosting, you can use a free service like ZoneEdit or EveryDNS to set everything up. Bear in mind this will require some knowledge of DNS services.
  
  Alternatively, you can let CanSpace handle the setup for you! For a one-time fee of $14.99, we will configure all the required records (including all MX and CNAME entries), verify your Google Apps account, and include lifetime hosting on our own DNS servers.
