How the TBR Process Works
When CIRA releases a cancelled or expired .ca domain name, it becomes available for registration during a special session held every Wednesday at 3:00PM (Eastern Time). These are called "To Be Released" (TBR) domains.
To view the domains being released next on Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 at 3:00PM, see CIRA's list at cira.ca/ca-domains/tbr
Proceed to TBR Order FormWhy CanSpace is the Best at Securing TBR Domains
Expertise
Our servers are time-synchronized to CIRA's TBR system down to the millisecond, and the latency between our machines and CIRA's is under 10ms. We submit registrations the instant the TBR session opens.
Automated Scripts
While other registrars manually fill out forms on CIRA's website, our custom-built scripts "snipe" domains the moment the session begins. By the time they start typing, your order is already submitted.
Best Prices, No Risk
A one-time fee of just $59.74 (includes the first year of .ca registration). We only place an authorize/hold on your card - you are not charged unless we successfully register the domain. No upfront billing, no refund hassles.
Common Misconceptions
TBR domains are registered with CIRA on a first-come, first-served basis. CIRA does not engage registrars in any bidding process. Paying a registrar more does not give you a greater chance of winning - the registrar who submits the request first wins the domain.
Many registrars accept multiple TBR orders for the same domain and make competing clients outbid each other. CanSpace does not do this. Once you place a TBR order with us, we will not accept any additional orders for that same domain. We work on your behalf, and only your behalf, to secure it.
Front of the Line Guarantees
Some TBR domains are extremely desirable and potentially very valuable. The only way to guarantee you get the one you want is to have your registrar submit the request before anyone else.
The TBR session begins at 14:00:00 EST every Wednesday. CIRA allows each registrar a single connection and only one request every 5 seconds. These limits are strictly enforced with no exceptions.
If you place your order with another registrar, it joins their queue - potentially behind dozens or hundreds of other orders. By the time they get to yours, your domain may already be gone.
Our front-of-the-line guarantees solve this:
- 1st in line - your request is submitted at exactly 14:00:00 EST, the moment the session opens
- 2nd in line - submitted at 14:00:05 EST
- 3rd in line - submitted at 14:00:10 EST, and so on
The 1st in line option virtually guarantees you will get the domain. Often even 2nd, 3rd, or 10th in line is sufficient - most other registrars are still submitting their first orders manually by that point.
Once a spot is purchased for a particular session, it is no longer available to anyone else. We do not charge you upfront for front-of-the-line fees either - only an authorize/hold is placed. If we don't get the domain, the entire hold is released.
