How to reset your WordPress administrator login Print

  • 511

There are two methods to reset your WordPress Administrator Login.

1.  Resetting from the WordPress Login Screen.

By simply going to the login screen of your website, you can click on the 'Lost your Password' link.  Clicking on this link will send you to a password reset page where a username or email address can be entered to reset the password.  WordPress will thend send a password reset link to the email address associated with that account.

2.  Resetting via phpMyAdmin.

- Login to your cPanel account (https://www.canspace.ca/clients/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=23)

- Click on the phpMyAdmin icon under the database section.

- Once phpMyAdmin loads, select the WordPress database.

- After the database is selected, there will be a list of tables.  You will need to find the '[prefix_users' table and click on the 'Browse' link next to it.

- Now presented are rows for all users.  Click edit next to the username that the password needs to be reset on.

- In the user_pass field, select MD5 for the function and enter the new password into the Value Field.  Select the Go button.

This will store the new Password in an encrypted format in your database.  The password can not be viewed once being stored in an MD5 format.
