Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you are located.
We are based in the spectacular West Kootenay region of British Columbia.
What is Infusion Electric?
When I finished my first part of schooling, being a female in a small region, I could not secure a first year apprenticeship. Not one to give up, I ended up leaving my family behind and going to Calgary. It was another four years until I could secure work here at home. When my daughter finished her first year of schooling, there was no way I was going to put her through the same ordeal. The core value of Infusion Electric (https://infusionelectric.ca/) is to make sure females, especially those who are single Mums, can maintain their home life here in the Kootenays and still achieve their goal of becoming a Journeyperson. We now have a team of five single Mums and I’m so very proud of each of them.
Why did you get into this line of work?
Prior to doing electrical, I was in TV and radio. I had always wanted to become an electrician, but my younger brother had already started in the trade and I didn’t want to be a copy cat. When he was killed in a dirt biking accident in 2008, I decided to stop making excuses and do it in his honour. I think he would be proud.
What’s the best thing about it?
No two days are ever the same. There’s always a new challenge and we are always thrilled to take it on. It’s the funnest job I’ve ever had and I love every minute of it!
What does it take to be great at what you do?
Answer your phone, show up on time and listen to understand and show respect. Basically, do unto others as you’d have done to yourself.
